Coconut water, chocolate avocado smoothie!

by cory hedgepeth – Smoothies are an awesome and tasty way to get some nutrition into the body, but that nutrition does come with a price: Sugar. Evil sugar. Clearly, fruits and vegetable have sugar and we do need them to live. And clearly, there is a big difference between an apple and a Snickers bar. But when it comes to smoothies, they are a lot of sugar because you can exponentially increase the amount of fruit and sweeteners.

Here is a smoothie that helps this situation out in a few ways.

First, instead of a banana, I use an avocado. The avocado has almost 3 times less sugars. It also has a way better glycemic load (fiber to carbohydrate), which means it is far less likely to spike the blood sugar than a banana. And, surprisingly, the avocado absorbs flavor and actually ends up tasting better than a banana.

The next thing I do is add some flaxseed oil, which is the plant source for the Omega 3 fatty acid. It is a great Fat and will help with the sugar load of the smoothie.

The rest of the smoothie includes freeze dried powder of goji and cacao, both of which can be found at NativasNaturals.com if you want to purchase it, or you can find plenty of other suppliers of freeze dried superfoods.

For the liquid, we use Zico coconut water and its spectacular!
