by cory hedgepeth – Using coconut oil for weight loss is one of the simplest, most effective ways to begin your weight loss journey. In addition, coconut oil helps you fight off seasonal viruses such as the flu, it helps heal your digestive system, and it will assist in controlling your blood sugar. Coconut oil taken a few times a day on a daily basis will speed up your body’s metabolism, however, lots of people are weary and confused on how to take it daily. Clearly, you can just eat it straight from the bottle (extra virgin, cold pressed, coconut oil), but a lot of people seem uncomfortable with that. One of the most popular ways to ingest it is in coffee, which we posted about here (coconut oil in coffee).

One other way is to put it in your hot tea. I for one have to be careful consuming any coffee, although I go through stages with it, I find it creates blood sugar spikes and makes me feel nervous / anxious. Some of you might feel the same, or you might just not enjoy the taste of coffee. In this case, we are left with hot tea. In this post, I show you an herbal hot tea and coconut oil recipe that I use.

Below is the following:

1) Trader Joe’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (cold pressed).
2) Organic cinnamon. This will help balance blood sugar by lowering it. Its antifungal (like coconut oil) and destroys candida.
3) Coconut milk. That bran is Native Forest Organic Coconut Milk. I use it because its BPA free. I transfer it to a BPA free container because it makes pouring it easier. I keep it refrigerated.
4) Hot tea infuser.
5)  Rishi Hot Tea, Ginger and Tumeric. Here is their website, I bought it at Whole Foods, but it’s hot tea, I am sure there are 1000′s to choose from and you probably already have your favorite.

The first thing I do is bring some water to a boil, then pour the hot water over a teaspoon of tea which is already in the infuser.

Next I cover the infuser. Clearly, you can use regular tea bags for this, it doesn’t have to be so fancy : )

After a few minutes, I pull the infuser and put a big lump of coconut oil in the tea. I put around a tbsp and a half (give or take). I let it melt into the hot tea for around 30 seconds.

Next I add the coconut milk. This was the toughest part for me, although I realize adding a milk substance to hot tea is popular, particularly with our friends over the big pond, it sounded terrible to me. But honestly, its really good. The coconut milk takes on a thick nature in the hot tea, it changes up the texture.

At the end, I add the cinnamon. Now, you can stir if you like, however I find that the ingredients sort of know where they want to be. The coconut oil is a fat and will float to the top in all cases and the cinnamon will attach to that. For me, the flavor of the hot tea infuses the coconut milk, so the hot tea taste like a warm, thick, drink with a hint of tumeric and ginger. The coconut oil will coat your lips, which is great for the winter. If you want to really boost your health, find a way to get some coconut oil into you every day.
